Halloween is the only time of the year when the unbelieving world comes to us! So when the town of Derry, NH, scheduled “trick or treating” along the main road, my church was there. We gave out free popcorn, cotton candy, face painting, a ton of gospel tracts, invitations to church, and me doing gospel illusions, or tricks.
Here are some photos, and then afterwards some details…

For the most part people were very open to having one-on-one conversations about Jesus Christ and salvation. There were some who just wanted their free cotton candy and split out of there, but very few. It’s hard to know exactly how many people came to our area, but we had 500 “squeeze bottles” with our church name and website on them, and the 500 were all given away in just under an hour. Since the event was over three hours, I’d say easily 1,500 people came through, and probably more.
While people waited in line for their “treats” I’d grab their attention by saying, “Excuse me ladies and gentlemen. While you’re waiting for your ‘treats,’ do you mind if I show you a ‘trick’?” I used a “Bible Coloring Book” illusions that shows either all blank pages, all black-and-white pages, or all color pages, depending on how I flip the pages. And I use the illusion to bring the gospel message. At one point there was what I estimate to be a 9-year-old boy, dressed as Darth Vader, and when I flipped the pages blank, and then flipped them again and they were black-and-white, his jaw opened sooooo huge! It was adorable! I also used the famous “3 ropes,” a “lie detector” illusion, and “Heaven in a Jar.” All were effective to explain the gospel, and engage people in one-on-one discussions afterwards and give out lots of gospel tracts.
It was a great outreach and my prayer is that God will use it to bring many to saving faith in Jesus Christ! Please keep that in your prayers too! 🙂
