One of the questions people ask me a lot is, “Do you get a lot of hecklers?“
And the answer is, “Not really.”
I think this is because we really do try to speak reasonably to people in our words, our tone, and body language.
Being an Evangelist does not give us a “pass” from treating people with respect and dignity.
So we don’t often get hecklers. And when we do, they typically stop fairly quickly because I do not allow my team members to respond harshly.
The two verses I ponder often when it comes to street ministry, (and really any ministry), are:
- “A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger” (Proverbs 15:1).
- “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good” (Romans 12:21).

But you never know what you’re gonna get in the Subways…
Last week we had a bizarre day because we had TWO hecklers (one was an outright mocker), and BOTH just happened to be caught on video! So if you’d like to see what it looks like to receive a heckler, feel free to watch the YouTube video below. As I said, these interactions were unusual. Still, I am convinced that God will use them to spread His gospel message, and it is the gospel that is “the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes” (Romans 1:16).
I used to mock the gospel too. If God can grab a hold of my heart, God can save ANYBODY!
I remain very optimistic about the important work being done in the subways to reach the unreached.
Please take a few minutes out of your time to watch this video.
I pray that it blesses and encourages you!
Please keep the Subway Ministry in your prayers!
Thank you for your prayers, notes of encouragement, and financial support. Without all of those, we could not be reaching the lost for Jesus Christ!
Please feel free to share this with others you think would be encouraged by it, and who will pray!
all for Jesus,
Mark (and family)
